The yarn company only guarantees the outcome of the garment if you use the yarn recommended in the pattern. Having said that, it doesn't mean you can't substitute the yarn.

In the reversed stocking stitch you purl on the right side and knit on the wrong side.

How much yarn do I need for a long tail cast on so I don't run out?
On the length of a 35 cm needle you can cast on anywhere between 15 to 25 stitches, less stitches on bigger yarn and more stitches on smaller yarn.

What is intarsia knitting?

I finished the neck following the pattern and can't get my head through the opening. Is there any way of fixing it?
You probably cast off to tightly. Undo the cast off take a much larger needle and cast off again. When you slip stitch the neck in place make sure you do it very loosely.

Make sure you always count the stitches on the purl row. The lost stitches are usually yarn overs.

You will have to do a tension. The tension is always done in stocking stitch unless specified.
