I have a basic pattern can I add any pattern to it?
You will have to watch for multiples. Just allow enough stitches to go up or down to the nearest multiple. If you add cables to your basic pattern you have to add 25% more stitches per cable. Let's say your cables is 8 stitches wide, you will add 2 extra stitches to compensate for this cable, you will do the same thing for all the other cables.

My pattern has a repeat pattern in it, how do I adjust it?
Go up or down to your closest multiples.

My pattern is for a pullover can I change it to a cardigan?
You certainly can. Use 2-3 stitches less then half and follow the shaping according to your pattern. Allow 4-6 stitches less for the center stitches of your neck or 2-3 stitches for the half.

I have knitted a teddy bear in a basic yarn. Can I knit the same bear in Chenille?
The tension of the basic yarn is 3 parts equals the stitches and 4 parts equals the rows for a 4inch square. In Chenille you usually need fewer stitches and a lot more rows for a 4inch square. Either you will have to rewrite the pattern or your bear will be distorted.

Can I add a design from a colouring book to my pullover?
The best way to do this is by making photocopies of your design in all different sizes. You will also need knitting graph paper. By using regular graph paper the design will be distorted. Your tension is extremely important. Let's use an example. You are using worsted weight yarn and your tension is 20 stitches and 24 rows to a 4inch square. You would like your design to be 6 inches wide. That means your design is approximately 30 stitches wide. Lay your copies on the knitting graph paper and use the copy that comes closest to the 30 stitches.
