What is intarsia knitting?
It is also called colour blocking, it can be an animal any kind of a design, it is a block of colour, not a continuous pattern.

How do I knit intarsia?
Probably the easiest way is to use bobbins. Have a bobbin for each colour you will be using.

I am knitting an animal in my sweater and get wholes what do I do?
When you change colours make sure that you cross the colour you have just been knitting with over the colour you will be knitting with. Always cross the colour on the purl side

When I knit intarsia my purl stitch after the design is always loose. What can I do to prevent that?
Purl the first stitch backwards. Put the yarn in the front as if to purl, insert your right hand needle into the next stitch purl-wise, lay your yarn on the left hand needle (between the two needles). With your right needle grab the yarn and pull it backwards through the stitch. The stitch will be on backwards. In the next row just knit in the back of the loop.

I always get tangled up when I knit intarsia. What can I do to prevent that?
Use the windshield wiper technique. After you finish the knit row turn the work clockwise, and when you finish the purl side turn the work counter clockwise.

How do I read a graph?
Always start at the first bottom row. When knitting flat (front and back separately) read the graph from right to left on the knit side (right side) and from left to right on the purl side (wrong side). When knitting in the round just read the graph from right to left.

I am doing an intricate intarsia pattern with lots of colours and have a terrible time with bobbins. Is there a better way of doing it?
Cut the colours you don't use for to many stitches in up to 3 yards. It is very easy to just pull these strands through the mess.

Can I do intarsia in the round?
Yes, it can be done. I don't recommend this technique unless it is a very simple pattern. With MC (main colour) knit to where your design starts, with CC (contrast colour) knit your design. Now slip the stitches of your CC (design) back onto your left needle, with MC purl around until you come to your design. Take the CC and purl over your design. Slip the stitches of your CC (design) back onto your right needle*. Repeat from * to *
