I bought the yarn, is there anything I should do before starting?
Check the dye lot of your yarn on the label. They should all be the same.

How do I know, I bought enough yarn?
The patterns usually allow enough yarn. If you want to make the garment a little bit longer or you are a very tight knitter it is better to buy an extra ball. Some shops let you return any extra full ball of yarn, check with the shop.

Do I have to use the recommended yarn for my pattern?
The yarn company only guarantees the outcome of the garment if you use the yarn recommended in the pattern. Having said that, it doesn't mean you can't substitute the yarn.

How can I substitute yarn?
If the pattern doesn't give you the weight of the yarn look at the tension. DK (double knit) is 22 stitches to 4 inches, KW (knitted worsted 18-20 stitches and chunky 15 stitches. If the pattern uses a specialty yarn it is best to find out the nature of the yarn as well as the tension.

What is better to start on the inside or outside of the ball?
I prefer to start on the inside of the ball with a solid coloured basic yarn, simply because the ball doesn't roll. With specialty yarns such as Chenille or multi coloured striping yarns it is best to start on the outside of the ball.

How do I find the beginning of the inside of the ball?
Stick the index fingers of both hands through the center of the ball. Once your fingers touch pull some yarn out and most of the time you will have the beginning of the yarn.
